The Challenge
CSS needed to communicate the MicroHub’s physical presence, technical capability, and deployment potential to a diverse audience: prospective clients across international markets, investors, and project partners. Several barriers stood in the way: - Scale and complexity: the MicroHub’s containerised form factor and internal process design are difficult to convey through static imagery or conventional product materials.
- Remote audience: CSS’s target markets span developing regions globally, making in-person demonstrations logistically challenging.
- Site planning requirements: buyers evaluating deployment sites need to be able to visualise how the system fits within a real-world environment before committing.
- Technical credibility: investors and clients alike needed to understand how the technology works, not just what it looks like. The brief was to create a tool that could do all of this, available on a device people already carry.

The solution
Animated Technologies designed and built MicroHub by CSS, a native iOS and iPadOS application available on the App Store. The app puts a fully interactive, life-scale version of the MicroHub directly in the hands of anyone CSS needs to reach. The 3D interactive model lets users explore the complete containerised system from any angle — rotating, zooming, and navigating around the exterior and into the system layout. The model is built to accurate scale, so users develop a genuine sense of the unit’s physical footprint and configuration. Augmented reality takes this a step further. Using the AR functionality built into the app, users can place the MicroHub into their own real-world environment through their device’s camera. This is particularly powerful for site planning: project teams, landowners, and procurement leads can see exactly how the system would sit within their space before any hardware is procured or shipped. Embedded interactive hotspots provide technical context throughout. Users can access information on system performance, feedstock flexibility, process design, and outputs — turning the app into a guided technical briefing as well as a visualisation tool. A training content framework is also built into the platform, with the architecture in place for CSS to expand walkthroughs and educational content as the product evolves.
